What’s known is that a Phoenix senior living community’s resident is dead. But the facts surrounding the preceding events remain in dispute.
Here is what ABC 15 reported: On the evening of March 15, staff found resident Wendy Rymes in the community’s dining room with a large gash on the top of her head and little or no pulse. Firefighters were able to reestablish a pulse and took her to a nearby hospital, where she died later that night, according to the Phoenix broadcast affiliate.
“I think they were trying to cover it up,” a former nurse said about management. “[The interim director] wanted me to say that all of the employees did CPR and everything they were supposed to do when they just stood back and they did nothing,” she asserted.
Attorneys for Broadway Mesa Village later issued a statement denying such allegations, while agreeing CPR did not occur.
“Very good medical reasons exist to explain why CPR was not performed, which are contained in the medical records for Ms. Rhymes. We are prohibited from disclosing these reasons due to the restrictions set forth in the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, also known as HIPAA,” the statement reads in part.
The resident’s death remains under investigation.
