Virtual reality programming already has become popular within senior living locations as a way to provide “travel” experiences or interact with others within the confines of a community.

Now one major VR startup is dramatically expanding its live programming so that older adults can access things such as world tours to trivia games nearly any time of the day.

Rendever, which caters to a large cohort of senior living spaces, will have its RendeverLive programming available from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. every weekday beginning Sept. 1, the company announced. That adds approximately 20 hours of content per week on top of RendeverLive’s current schedule.

Rendever also announced that it is opening access to a new version of the VR for individuals aging in place.

The company touted its 192% annual growth rate in a statement last week.

Rendever currently works with hundreds of healthcare companies.

“There aren’t many things that get them this excited on a daily basis,” said Cindy Housel, life enrichment director at Riverton Enhanced Senior Living in Allentown, PA, in a statement. She called the programming “reliability … a huge relief for me during monthly planning.”

Beyond pure entertainment value, Rendever has begun partnering with senior living companies to help with various aspects of services, health and care, including fitness and rehabilitation.

The company recently partnered with New-York based RiverSpring Living to help residents discharged from the hospital use the VR headset to explore and be reacquainted with their living space(s).

In the past, the company also has conducted studies with senior living and care partners to see how their technology is used by older adults with different cognitive challenges such as dementia.
