Transforming Age CEO Torsten Hirche

Alameda, CA-based Elder Care Alliance joined the Transforming Age network last week, expanding the Bellevue, WA and Omaha, NE-based not-for-profit senior living operator’s footprint into California.

Transforming Age President and CEO Torsten Hirche told the McKnight’s Business Daily that affiliations such as this one enable the company to “get smarter as an organization every time a strong team and a new team joins us.”

Under this new partnership, both organizations plan to leverage their combined strengths to broaden their service offerings, providing older adults with an expanded array of programs, care options and sustainable housing solutions.

“A lot of our affiliations, including this one, are of a strategic nature, where senior living organizations are strategically planning their future. And one of the recurring themes is that it’s just hard to do a step by yourself and you’re stronger together as part of a larger group,” Hirche said. “And that was no different with Elder Care Alliance.”

There was no immediate need for an affiliation by either party, Hirche said, but the move represented a long-term strategic direction for each side.

“The affiliation between Elder Care Alliance and Transforming Age represents a true partnership, with real synergy — not just in culture match but strategic vision. I am excited to see how together we might transform aging,” ECA CEO Adriene Iverson said in a press release

ECA brings much to the table, Hirche said, with five communities in California. ECA also has a wellness program, a food program for those that cannot afford meals and a memory care program that Transforming Age wants to continue to develop, Hirche said.

“And California has a huge market, very important, lots of people who will need quality housing services,” Hirche said.

Founded more than 60 years ago, Presbyterian Retirement Communities Northwest rebranded in 2016 as Transforming Age. The company owns and operates more than 75 communities in 23 states.

In 2022, the company outgrew its Bellevue, WA, roots and added a second headquarters in Omaha, NE. Hirche said at the time that the second headquarters was a sign of further expansion ahead, giving the Transforming Age the ability to support its growing Midwest presence.
