The Virginian retirement community in Fairfax, VA, has completed a $67 million renovation project to add units and expand amenities.

Owned by an affiliate of the Chicago-based private equity firm Focus Healthcare Partners and managed by Life Care Services, the Virginian offers independent living, assisted living, memory care and skilled nursing.

The renovated seven-story, 367,000-square-foot building includes four wings, with a total of 155 independent living apartments, 56 assisted living residences, 36 memory care units and 53 skilled nursing units.

According to The Virginian, the renovation project is one of the largest investments in senior living in the Washington, DC, metropolitan area.

The newly renovated retirement community is meant to have a resort feel for residents. Mindful of its setting on approximately 32 wooded acres along the Accotink Creek of the Potomac River, The Virginian takes advantage of its outdoor areas with space for pickleball, bocce ball, a putting green, a dog park and a fire pit area within a courtyard where residents can socialize.

Inside, the renovation covers multiple dining venues, a wine cellar, sports bar, indoor golf simulator, theater, entertainment venues, three full-service salons, technology areas and a spa.

“New to The Virginian is the exclusive fifth floor concierge level, which offers its own dining room and bar,” the company said. Residents on the concierge level also have the option of valet parking. “The one, two- and three-bedroom apartments feature additional upgrades, including California closet design, smart thermostats and smart lights, which connect to a smartphone and electronic blinds.”

The Virginian is a rental community, meaning no entrance fee or long-term contract for residents. A $15,000 nonrefundable community fee is required of all residents, however.
