Dallas-based Capital Senior Living is expanding its Virtual Engagement Program by distributing tablet computers to all of its communities.

The company has 119 communities serving a total of more than 10,000 residents across 22 states. Each community will get at least one Amazon Fire, and perhaps more, if needed, in the coming weeks, the company told McKnight’s Senior Living. Some communities already had devices, and community size may determine the total number of tablets at a community, the company said.

The Virtual Engagement Program aims to help increase communication between residents and their families by facilitating virtual meetings with families during the pandemic and afterward. The program also enables communities to live-stream certain events and showcase buildings to future residents via virtual tours and meetings.

Capital announced the planned tablet distribution Friday during National Assisted Living Week.

“We could not think of a better way to honor our residents, hard-working staff and communities than to help facilitate better communication during COVID-19 and into the future,” Capital Senior Living Chief Operating Officer Brandon Ribar said. “While we had already been facilitating virtual communication between our residents and their families as well as amongst potential future residents, additional tablets will increase opportunities for our residents to stay close to their loved ones. And it helps our staff ensure a connection for our residents.”
