The federal public health emergency due to COVID-19 has been extended until July 20, effective Wednesday, according to Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra.

The previous 90-day extension was set to expire Wednesday.

As McKnight’s Senior Living previously reported, the emergency is expected to be renewed every 90 days and last through the end of 2021. The government expects to provide 60 days’ notice in advance of ending it.

The federal public health emergency due to the coronavirus first was declared in January 2020 and was renewed in April, July and October 2020, as well as in January 2021.
