Police in Alexandria, VA, are investigating an assault at a senior living community that resulted in the death of a resident.
Sunrise of Alexandria resident Hunter Alexander, police said in a Nov. 11 press release, was assaulted by a 72-year-old man at the community on Oct. 24 and died two days later at an area hospital. No charges have been filed.
The Washington Post reported that the 72-year-old involved in the incident also is a resident of the assisted living community.
Sunrise Senior Living did not respond to telephone and email requests for comment from McKnight’s Senior Living but told a local TV station that the community “immediately notified all proper authorities when the incident occurred.” The police department, according to the Fox 5 media report, said it was not notified of the attack until two days after it occurred.
Alexander’s niece told the Washington Post that her uncle was a Navy veteran and a retired faculty member of Georgetown University who had lived at Sunrise of Alexandria for about five years. She described his death as “an unfortunate accident.”
Alexander’s nephew told Fox 5 that the deceased resident is a direct descendant of George Washington, a relationship that is reported in the book “The Washingtons: A Family History.”
