Distinctive Living appoints Timothy Ford as general counsel, chief human resources officer

Timothy J. Ford has been named general counsel and chief human resources officer at Distinctive Living, which is based in Freehold, NJ. 

Recently elected to the New Jersey Assisted Living Council Board of Directors, Ford brings almost two decades of  legal expertise in senior living community and long-term care facility operations. 

Ford holds a Juris Doctor, cum laude, from Albany Law School at Union University. He also earned a Bachelor of Science, cum laude, from The College of New Jersey. His professional affiliations include membership in the Health Care Association of New Jersey, where he served on the Education Committee;,LeadingAge New Jersey and Delaware; and the New Jersey State Bar Association.

Juniper Communities adds Andrew Katzmann to leadership team

Andrew Katzmann has been added to Juniper Communities’ home office leadership team in Bloomfield, NJ. He will be working closely with Juniper’s financial team, focusing on investment strategy while also contributing to the company’s analytics efforts.

Katzmann brings with him more than a decade of senior housing experience both on the capital and operations side of the business. Prior to joining Juniper, he was a vice president at Columbia Pacific Advisors’ Real Estate Strategies division and held a position at real estate investment trust LTC Properties.

Katzmann, who is the son of Juniper founder and CEO Lynne Katzmann, PhD, graduated from Tulane University with a degree in economics.

Solstice Senior Living promotes Cristy Ballard to chief growth officer

Cristy Ballard has been promoted to chief growth officer at Solstice Senior Living, which is based in Carlsbad, CA. 

Ballard has almost 25 years of experience in the senior living industry. She joined Solstice in September 2018 as its companywide sales and marketing leader and subsequently advanced to the position of senior vice president. 

Ballard holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Sullivan University, where she graduated summa cum laude.

Guardian adds Abbey Kent as VP of senior living

Abbey Kent has been named vice president of senior living for Guardian in Portland, OR. 

Kent has held leadership positions in several organizations, including corporate director of operations and marketing at Seasons Management, where she oversaw operations and marketing for multiple senior housing communities. She also formerly was the regional vice president of operations at Regency Pacific Management, where her portfolio included senior living communities across several states.

Erickson hires Chloe Taylor as director of dining services at Windsor Run

Chloe Taylor has been named the director of dining services at Windsor Run an Erickson Senior Living-managed continuing care retirement community in Matthews, NC.

Taylor brings 16 years of culinary experience, including five years in senior living, to her new role. She began her career journey with Erickson at Brooksby Village in Massachusetts, where she first was an assistant general manager and then was promoted to staff development manager. In 2023, she was promoted to traveling assistant dining director with Erickson.

Taylor holds a bachelor’s degree in behavioral studies from Northern Illinois University and certifications from ServSafe and TIPS.

White Horse Village adds new board leader, 3 new members

Michael Hammond has been tapped to replace Pamela Hansen as head of the board of directors of White Horse Village, a continuing care retirement community in Newtown Square, PA.

Hansen served on the community’s board for nine years and stepped into the role of chair in 2022. Hammond has been a member of the board for 16 years.

The CCRC also has named three new board members: Anthony J. Buividas, Cheryl Kiley and Cathy Mikus.

Experience’s Lauren Friedman named Assisted Living Administrator of the Year

Lauren Friedman, executive director at Sancerre Atlee Station in Mechanicsville, VA, has been named the 2024 Assisted Living Administrator of the Year by the Virginia Health Care Association-Virginia Center for Assisted Living. VHCA-VCAL bestowed the honor on Friedman during its annual convention in Norfolk, VA, on Sept. 11.

Friedman has almost 20 years of experience in the senior living industry and has been an executive director since 2017. The award celebrates her success as a champion and leader in the assisted living profession and her commitment to creating strong community connections to better serve residents.

Mike Edwin has been hired as a senior consultant–religious and senior living markets at Hoffman in Appleton, WI. 

Edwin brings almost 25 years of experience in the healthcare profession. He had collaborated with Hoffman for years on multiple projects as a senior living consultant and analyst while in leadership positions at national advisory firms Wipfli and Baker Tilly. He has specialized in consulting, community and facility assessments, and strategic planning. 

Edwin received his Bachelor of Science in economics and management from Minnesota State University and his MBA from Edgewood College.

Richard J. Faulkner Jr. and Amy Mahone have been named the leaders of Baker Donelson’s seniors housing and long-term care team in Chattanooga, TN.

Faulkner’s practice includes finance, acquisitions and sales, and regulatory advice. He serves as outside general counsel to numerous operators in the sector. Before joining Baker Donelson, he was legal counsel and vice president of strategic growth for Life Care Centers of America.

From her early years with The Nathanson Group in Seattle, Mahone’s legal practice has focused on leading complex transactions, including acquisitions, dispositions, leasing, management and operations. She also has addressed corporate law issues for both tax-exempt and for-profit companies, along with licensure and certificate of need matters.
