Chris Collins promoted to chief financial officer at Harbor Retirement Associates

Chris Collins has joined Vero-Beach, FL-based Harbor Retirement Associates, a regional senior living development and management company, as chief financial officer.

Collins has been HRA’s controller for the past six years. In his new role, he will be responsible for managing the accounting and finance teams for HRA communities nationwide.

“Chris has been an integral part of HRA’s tremendous growth over the past six years,” HRA President and CEO Sarabeth Hanson said. “He has helped us grow from 17 communities to 36 communities by year’s end. We believe that he is going to play a key role in our continued success as we move forward.”

Collins brings more than 26 years of experience in accounting and operations management to his new role. He has worked with large corporations and previously was a controller for a multi-location urgent care facility and management company that oversaw five assisted living communities and 53 skilled nursing facilities. As HRA’s controller, Collins was responsible for all aspects of the company’s accounting and corporate finance, including financial planning, investor relations, analysis, solutions and forecasting.

Collins has an undergraduate degree in accounting and master’s degree in applied management from the University of Maryland University College. He is also a certified public accountant.

Collins will succeed departing CFO Tom Mitchell, who is stepping down from his role for family reasons.

“Tom’s six years of service and financial leadership have contributed significantly to HRA’s growth, profitability and success,” Hanson said. “We will miss his energy, focus and enthusiasm for our company. We are grateful for his many contributions and accomplishments. We wish him and his family well in the years ahead.”

HRA is focused primarily on assisted living and memory care communities but also is engaged in the development and operations of independent living communities and skilled nursing facilities.

Andrew Gall named executive director of Market Street Memory Care Residence, Palm Coast

Andrew Gall is the new executive director of Market Street Memory Care Residence in Palm Coast, FL, a 64-unit Watercrest Senior Living Group community.

Gall was recognized as one of Volusia and Flagler County’s “Top 40 Under 40” in 2016. He has established his senior living career serving independent living, assisted living and memory care communities.

Lisa Bernard joins Cadence Living as corporate sales specialist

Lisa Bernard has joined the Cadence Living corporate team as corporate sales specialist. In this role, Bernard will provide sales management, strategy and community outreach training for Cadence’s growing senior housing portfolio, which includes independent living, assisted living and memory care properties.

Bernard brings more than 15 years of senior housing sales and marketing experience with stints at Pathway Senior Living, Brookdale Senior Living and American Orchards before joining Cadence. She also has community operational experience.

Cadence Living currently is developing, owns or operates communities in California, Arizona and Colorado and is expanding its footprint throughout the South and West.

Dulce Dangis is new DON at The Springs at Monarch Landing

Dulce Dangis is the new director of nursing at The Springs at Monarch Landing, a life plan community in Naperville, IL.

She has degrees in both nursing and law and has worked in both fields.

Dangis came to the United States. from the Philippines in 2006, having been sponsored by a long-term care provider. Once here, she started out as a floor nurse, moving through the ranks to p.m. supervisor, assistant director of nursing and director of nursing.

Tutera’s Mike Levitt elected president of Missouri Health Care Association

Mike Levitt, vice president and chief compliance officer for Kansas City, MO-based Tutera Senior Living & Health Care, recently was elected to a one-year term as president of the Missouri Health Care Association at its annual convention in Branson, MO. Levitt previously served two terms as MHCA vice president, for the past two years.

A licensed nursing home administrator since 1977, Levitt also is the president of the Missouri Board of Nursing Home Administrators, to which he was appointed by Missouri’s governor in 2011.

Established in 1947 and currently with 320 members, the MHCA is Missouri’s largest association of licensed, long-term, residential and assisted living facilities. The organization is the state affiliate of the American Health Care Association / National Center for Assisted Living. He also serves on AHCA’s Survey/Regulatory Committee for the 2018/2019 year and is a member of the Health Care Compliance Association.

With Tutera, Levitt has held various positions over his more than 30 years with the organization. He currently oversees Tutera’s Continua Home Health. In addition, Levitt manages government relations for Tutera’s senior living facilities, communities and agencies in nine states.

Todd Kobayashi joins HHHunt as chief financial officer

Todd Kobayashi has joined HHHunt as chief financial officer.

He has more than a decade of experience financing and developing multifamily living, senior housing and student housing. Since 2013, Kobayashi had been CFO at Foutch Architecture & Development in Kansas City, MO. There, his areas of responsibility included finance, accounting, tax, insurance, risk management and IT functions. He led strategic planning for Foutch and shaped opportunities in the senior living and student housing arenas. Before Foutch, Kobayashi served in several vice president roles at Great Plains Energy/KCP&L for nine years.

Kobayashi graduated cum laude from Miami University in Oxford, OH, with an undergraduate degree in business. He also attended the Harvard Business School in Cambridge, MA, graduating from the advanced management program, and holds the chartered financial analyst designation.

Based in the company’s Richmond, VA, office, Kobayashi will oversee HHHunt’s corporate finance and accounting functions across all business lines, including corporate cash flow. He’ll work with all divisions to ensure debt and equity are available for new investment opportunities. Kobayashi also will advise HHHunt’s CEO and chief operating officer regarding capital investments to support the company’s growth while providing strategic direction for financial commitments.

Kobayashi  succeeds James A. Crowder, who is retiring Dec. 31. To ensure a smooth and successful transition, he’ll work closely with Crowder for the remainder of the year.

Crowder will retire at the end of 2018, capping a 20-year tenure with HHHunt that saw the company expand throughout the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast as it grew substantially. He was honored in 2017 by Virginia Business magazine as the Top Virginia CFO for a large private company.

Adrienne Morrell appointed SVP of public, government and community affairs at SCAN Health Plan

Adrienne Morrell has joined Long Beach, CA-based SCAN Health Plan as senior vice president of public, government and community affairs.

In her new role, Morrell will work to reinforce SCAN’s government and community relations while working side-by-side with healthcare policymakers and trade associations to develop and advocate for legislation that positively affects the livelihood, health and independence of the nation’s older adults

“More and more seniors are choosing Medicare Advantage plans and SCAN’s long history and commitment to serving seniors, especially those with multiple chronic conditions and the dual eligible population is particularly exciting to me,” Morrell said. “As the Medicare Advantage program has gained bipartisan support in Congress, I welcome the opportunity to build upon SCAN’s 40-year legacy to ensure we continue to advocate for programs and resources that improve the quality of life for seniors.”

Previously, Morrell served as the executive vice president of federal and external affairs at America’s Health Insurance Plans, overseeing the company’s advocacy, government affairs and public policy activities. Before that, she spent more than a decade at Health Net as vice president for government relations. Earlier experience includes positions in the legislative offices of former Sen. Olympia Snowe (R-ME) and former Rep. Harris Fawell (R-IL).

Morrell will work toward building SCAN Health Plan’s existing reach and reputation in Washington DC, Sacramento and Long Beach, CA. She is based in Washington, D.C. Her first day was Sept. 26.
