Rick Oros named director of operations at Lifespace Communities
Rick Oros has been named director of operations at West Des Moines, IA-based Lifespace Communities, which has 12 continuing care retirement communities across seven states.
He most recently the regional director of operations for Tutera Senior Living.
Oros began his career as a licensed nursing home administrator, moving into roles in operations and managed care. His career includes positions in residential living, assisted living, memory care and skilled nursing. In the past decade, he has opened seven new communities and led two others through large-scale redevelopments.
Oros has an undergraduate degree in health planning and administration from Pennsylvania State University. He is a licensed nursing home administrator in two states and a fellow in the American College of Health Care Administrators.
Jayne Glaza named divisional vice president for Premier Senior Living
Jayne Glaza has been named divisional vice president for New York City-based assisted living and memory care company Premier Senior Living.
In this role, she will be responsible for overseeing the 24-hour operations to nine of the company’s 23 locations. She will provide strategic direction, standardization of processes and operational management for Premier Senior Living. Glaza also will be responsible for coordinating and overseeing community operations, including programming and administration.
Before joining Premier, Glaza was the regional director of operations for the First & Main senior living organization for two years. She awas senior executive director for multiple senior living communities in the Flint and Lansing, MI, areas for four years.
Glaza graduated from Wayne State University in Detroit with an undergraduate degree in mortuary science.
Carey Rhoades named regional director of quality control for Premier Senior Living
Carey Rhoades, RN, has been named regional director of quality control at New York City-based assisted living and memory care company Premier Senior Living.
She will implement initiatives with community wellness directors and oversee all programs necessary to support companywide consistent standards of quality healthcare and services and regulatory compliance.
Previously, Rhoades was the executive director for Orchard Park Assisted Living and Memory Care, a Premier Senior Living community in Bucyrus, OH, for eight years. She has 10 years of experience as a nurse and an emergency medical technician. Before working at Premier Senior Living, she worked at Heartland of Marion, an HCR ManorCare community in Marion, OH.
Rhoades serves on the Tri-Rivers advisory board of nursing students in Marion, OH.
Pamela Mills promoted to director of memory programming at Ingleside
Pamela Mills has been promoted to director of memory programming at Washington, DC-based Ingleside. In this role, she will lead the company in creating therapeutic programming for those with neurocognitive disorders.
Previously, Mills was director of memory care at the Ingleside at King Farm continuing care retirement community in Rockville, MD. There, she developed, planned, organized and implemented the day-to-day functions of the memory care services. She also began, from concept to creation, a social day program called Ingleside Engaged, for people with dementia-related cognitive impairment.
Mills has a certificate in Alzheimer’s disease and dementia care training through the National Council of Certified Dementia Practitioners and is a certified therapeutic recreation specialist through the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification.
She has a master’s degree in management of aging services from the Erickson School at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, and an undergraduate degree in health and human performance from the University of Maryland, College Park.
Tania Ramirez promoted to food and beverage director at Morningside of Fullerton
Tania Ramirez to has been promoted to food and beverage director at Morningside of Fullerton, a Continuing Life continuing care retirement community in Fullerton, CA.
In this role, she will manage all aspects of Morningside’s food and beverage activities for the community, including menu planning and food preparation. She also will be responsible for supervising the culinary and serving staffs as well as the community’s catering, bakery, food and beverage departments. Morningside’s culinary staff prepares and serves approximately 2,500 meals each week in the community’s dining rooms and for special events and family celebrations.
Ramirez joined the Morningside culinary crew 17 years ago as a dining room server. She was promoted to dining room assistant manager and worked in that capacity for six years. She then was promoted to dining room manager and filled that role for nine years until her latest promotion.
Ramirez is taking culinary arts classes at Cypress College and has certificates in culinary arts fundamentals and food and beverage fundamentals. She also has certificates in management, hospitality purchasing and customer service from the National Restaurant Association.
ASC launches Memory Care Advisory Council
An advisory group consisting of professionals who work in or are connected to the memory care field will work with Indianapolis, IN-based American Senior Communities to provide feedback and expertise aimed at enhancing the company’s memory care programs, ASC has announced.
ASC operates almost 90 senior health communities throughout Indiana, and most have memory care centers called Auguste’s Cottage.
The council was convened by ASC Director of Memory Care Support Services Melanie Perry and Memory Care Business Development Specialist Vickie Greenough. The group will meet monthly, when members of the council will learn about each other’s research and programs, including ASC memory care developments.
In addition to Perry and Greenough, members of the group include Nicole Fowler, Ph.D., Indiana University Center for Aging Research; Carol Applegate, Applegate Elder Law; Tina M. McIntosh, president of Joy’s House Adult Day Service; Denise Saxman, care consultant, Alzheimer’s Association; Bryon Foley, Foresight Financial; John Kindred, Right At Home Health; Mike Simmons, DBA, Bridge Builder Strategies; and Dustin Ziegler, Central Indiana Council on Aging’s Aging and In-Home Services and Dementia Friends Indiana.
Erin Pettegrew named Ohio long-term care ombudsman
Erin Pettegrew has been appointed the Ohio long-term care ombudsman. She has been acting state ombudsman since December.
In her permanent role, Pettegrew will continue to promote person-centered care for all of Ohio’s long-term care consumers.
Pettegrew has served the Ohio Department of Aging and the Office of the State Long-Term Care Ombudsman for almost 13 years. As the ombudsman projects coordinator, she oversaw Ohio’s Nursing Home Quality Initiative, including quality improvement projects such as person-centered staff engagement and Music & Memory, and managed the long-term care facility resident and family satisfaction surveys.
As the state ombudsman, she coordinates the Ohio interagency resident transition team in the event of a long-term care provider closure. She also provides training and technical assistance to regional long-term care ombudsmen and assists in quality improvement and monitoring programs. She also serves as vice chair of the National Consumer Voice for Quality Long-Term Care Leadership Council.
Before joining the Office of the State Long-Term Care Ombudsman, Pettegrew was a budget analyst with the Ohio Legislative Service Commission and as a local government liaison with the Ohio Department of Development.
She is a graduate of Ohio University with an undergraduate degree in interpersonal communication and a master’s degree in political science. She also completed the series in applied gerontology education program through Ohio State University, as well as the requirements to be a certified dementia care practitioner.
