Omega Healthcare Investors is making MyndVR’s virtual reality experiences available to the almost 1,000 senior living and skilled nursing facilities in its portfolio in an effort to help residents achieve skilled therapeutic goals.
The three-year partnership will provide the Hunt Valley, MD-based real estate investment trust’s U.S. and U.K. operators access to MyndVR’s network of immersive content, headsets and tablets. The platform includes a bundled subscription plan with monthly content updates across a variety of reminiscence, music, art, nature-immersion, meditation and cognitive programs.
Omega, with operators including Maplewood Senior Living and its upscale Inspir brand, called virtual reality an “affordable and highly researched therapeutic tool.”
“We are excited to partner with MyndVR and align our concurrent missions of improving the lives of older adults,” Omega CEO Taylor Pickett said.
Virtual reality in senior living
Sodalis Senior Living also has rolled out virtual reality via Dallas-based MyndVR in 26 communities across Texas and Florida.
“At Sodalis, we have seen an immediate improvement in resident socialization after using MyndVR, as well as an increase in activity engagement with staff,” Sodalis Senior Living President Traci Taylor-Roberts said. “It’s exciting, because VR represents a game-changing approach to delivering activities and therapies for our residents.”
The virtual reality company also partnered with John Knox Village, a Pompano Beach, FL, life plan community, and Stanford University on a study to see how virtual reality affects older adults. The program earned a Bronze-level award in the 2020 McKnight’s Excellence in Technology Awards.
MyndVR also worked with senior living communities in California last year to bring virtual reality programming to their residents. Another partnership with Fort Worth, TX-based management company Civitas Senior Living introduced virtual reality to residents of Midtowne Assisted Living and Memory Care in suburban Dallas.
