More than 600 senior living and care providers have been named recipients of SeniorAdvisor Best of 2021 Senior Living Awards, A Place for Mom has announced.

The awards are determined by the reviews by older adults and their families on the SeniorAdvisor ratings and reviews website.

“Of the nearly 45,000 senior living care providers in North America currently listed on SeniorAdvisor and hundreds of thousands of reviews, the top 3% were recognized with this prestigious award by providing the highest level of care that residents and their families deserve,” Sue Johansen, senior vice president, community network at A Place for Mom, said in a statement.

To qualify for the award, communities must have received an average overall rating of at least 4.5 stars on six or more reviews on the website during the award period, which was Oct. 19, 2019, to Oct. 31, 2020. Additionally, winners must offer at least one of the following types of care and services in the United States or Canada: independent living, assisted living, memory care, continuing care retirement community, skilled nursing or in-home care.

All but five of the winners are located in the United States. The states with the greatest number of communities on the list are Texas (103), California (61) and Florida (50). Holiday Retirement said that 70 of its communities were honored, and Atria Senior Living said that 55 of its communities were recognized.

Family member motivation, satisfaction

Additionally, in an A Place for Mom survey, 86% of caregivers with loved ones who moved into a senior living community over the past six months said that COVID did not influence their decision to move during the pandemic, mainly because their loved ones needed care beyond what they could receive at home.

Almost 90% of families with a loved one living in a senior living community said they were satisfied or very satisfied with the care the older adults in their lives had received in the past year.
