McKnight’s Senior Living Editor Lois Bowers poses with two of the five awards won in 2024 in the Ohio SPJ Awards.

McKnight’s Senior Living dominated the business-to-business media categories of the 2024 Ohio’s Best Journalism Contest, winning a total of five awards, including two Best of Show awards. The contest was sponsored by the Cleveland, Cincinnati and Columbus chapters of the Society of Professional Journalists.

The awards, for work completed in 2023, were presented Aug. 24 in Cleveland.

McKnight’s Senior Living won first place in the Best of Show – Best Trade Publication category, for McKnight’s Senior Living magazine. Named on the award were Editorial Director John O’Connor, Editor Lois Bowers, Content Editor Kimberly Bonvissuto, Senior Art Director Monica Pizzi, Graphic Designer Aminah Beg, Special Projects Coordinator Foster Stubbs, and writers Kathleen Steele Gaivin, Aaron Dorman and John Hall.

Bowers took home first place in the Best of Show – Best Trade Columnist category. The award recognized two columns in particular: ‘The Golden Bachelor’ could be a golden opportunity and  A big lump of coal … and an opportunity.

McKnight’s Senior Living also won first place in the Best Trade Publication Website category, for mcknightsseniorliving.com. Honored were Bowers, Bonvissuto, O’Connor, Gaivin, Dorman and Stubbs.

The media brand won both first and second place in the Best Trade Report category. Winning first place was CMS’ HCBS access rule adds burdens, industry says by Bowers, and winning second place was Quality, safety, accountability vital, industry leaders say, as Washington Post report cites deaths at ‘dangerously understaffed’ communities, by Bowers, with additional reporting by Bonvissuto.

McKnight’s Senior Living won 19 awards this year in international, national, regional and state competitions.
