Morrisville, NC-based K4Connect has raised $8.9 million from 14 investors, according to a Thursday filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

The company, which makes and integrates software for senior living communities and nursing homes and their residents, seeks to raise another $1 million in the funding round.

The tech firm now has raised more than $43 million since it began operations in 2013, Business North Carolina magazine reported

Since the start of the pandemic in 2020, K4Connect has focused its efforts on resident engagement and safety. Among its efforts, K4Connect partnered with Amazon in 2020 to distribute more than 8,000 Echo Dots to more than 40 West Coast independent and assisted living communities affected by COVID-19. In 2021, more than 1,400 Amazon Echo Show 8 devices were delivered to senior living communities in North Carolina, thanks to a federal grant.

“The pandemic pulled much of the world to a screeching halt. For us, it served as an opportunity to deliver on our mission of using technology to better serve older adults,” K4Connect co-founder and CEO Scott Moody previously said

K4Connect’s FusionOS integration platform brings all of a community’s technology products and services into a single system. The technology tracks activities, pill distribution and notifies staff if a resident falls, for example.

Cypress Cove in Fort Myers, FL, earned a bronze award in the Senior Living track’s Building Bridges category of the 2022 McKnight’s Excellence in Technology Awards for its use of K4Connect.

Last year, the company partnered Vayyar Care, an automatic fall detection and remote monitoring company, to provide touchless, camera-free fall detection technology to senior living residents and operators.

“Integrating Vayyar Care with K4Community enables us to bring the best of the best to our community partners today, while establishing a data-driven foundation that can support advanced future offerings built around preventative and predictive care,” Moody said in a statement at the time.
