The Department of Housing and Urban Development announced Thursday the fourth round of COVID-19 supplemental payments for multifamily housing providers, including owners of Section 202 properties.

“The critical funds we are making available will help owners to ensure the health, safety and well-being of residents and staff and make more improvements that can help combat future health emergencies,” HUD Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for the Office of Housing Lopa Kolluri said in a statement.

Owners of eligible properties have until Nov. 19 to apply for more than $180 million in supplemental operating funds to support expenses for protecting residents and staff from COVID-19. The funds can be used to cover pandemic-related expenses incurred between April 1 and Oct. 31. The payments supplement rental assistance funding.

Personal protective equipment, as well as increased cleaning and sanitization, are among the most common expenditures property owners face, but expenses can include some types of capital improvement, such as improvements in ventilation and air filtration in common areas as well as emergency generators. Installation of broadband Wi-Fi infrastructure is covered under expanded guidelines in HUD’s latest announcement.

HUD expects this round to be the final one of payments under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act.
