Another major home care organization, the Home Care Association of America (HCAOA), is partnering with the National Minority Health Association (NMHA) to provide cash incentives for workers who get the COVID-19 vaccine.
Home care workers who participate in the Flex for Checks program receive $50 for getting one shot and or $100 for both doses. They also receive $25 for every shot a community member gets under their registration.
“Since the vaccine was rolled out, HCAOA has developed and provided educational resources to home care agencies and workers about the safety and benefit of the COVID-19 vaccine,” Vicki Hoak, HCAOA executive director, said in a statement. “But this partnership with the NMHA is a game changer. By simply registering with the Flex for Checks program and sharing information and resources with workers, agencies and their workers can earn unlimited money – which goes a long way at a time where agencies are struggling to recruit caregivers.
The National Association for Home & Care also recently disclosed it is joining forces with NMHA and Flex for Checks to boost the number of unvaccinated home care workers.
NAHC President William Dombi estimated last month the vaccination rate among home care workers could be less than 50%. Neither the NAHC nor HCAOA is advocating mandatory vaccinations for workers, but the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization is.
Currently, a handful of states including New York, New Jersey, California, Maine and Oregon are mandating vaccinations for home healthcare workers
