R. Scott Herzig’s employment as senior vice president of senior living operations of Five Star Senior Living was terminated Dec. 12, the Newton, MA-based company announced after business hours on Monday in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
Five Star gave no reason for Herzig’s departure.
The announcement comes less than a week after the company announced the impending departure of President and CEO Bruce Mackey Jr. On Dec. 11, Five Star announced that Katie Potter, the company’s current executive vice president and general counsel, would step into the top spot on Jan. 1, after a third-quarter earnings call in November during which Mackey said the company’s finances cast “substantial doubt on our ability to continue as a going concern.”
Herzig was named senior vice president and chief operating officer at Five Star in September 2012, succeeding Rosemary Esposito, who retired. He had been the company’s divisional vice president of operations for the Western Division since 2007. Prior to that, Herzig was a regional director of operations for Five Star for seven years.
Before joining Five Star, Herzig was a senior administrator for Mariner Post Acute Network, a national healthcare services provider. He came to Five Star with more than 20 years of operating experience managing independent living, assisted living and skilled nursing communities.
