Edenwald Senior Living and Wesley SecureCare signed an agreement Wednesday to share services in the first step toward completing a planned affiliation.
“We began talks with Wesley SecureCare in 2022 with the hopes of entering the continuing care at home market in partnership with their organization,” Edenwald President and CEO Mark Beggs said in a joint press release from the companies. “As they have developed and grown their program, we’re excited about this opportunity to enable them to expand across the state of Maryland and offer more options for individuals, in how they want to live and thrive in their later years.”
Wesley SecureCare formerly was called The Wesley at Home. The company is the only licensed continuing care at home program approved by the Maryland Department of Aging, the firms noted.
Amanda Young, PhD, executive director of Wesley SecureCare, said that the affiliation with Edenwald will help expand the services Wesley SecureCare can offer its members.
“It also provides members the benefits and enrichment that comes from living in a life plan community while still living in their own homes,” Young added.
Specifically, Wesley SecureCare members will be able to access higher learning through Edenwald’s partnership with Goucher College, announced last month.
When finalized, Edenwald and Goucher will be the first partners in Maryland to become a university retirement community, which is a growing national trend geared toward retirees who are interested in senior living communities that are associated with higher education institutions. Wesley SecureCare members also will be able to enroll in continuing education courses through Edenwald’s existing relationship with The Osher Lifelong Learning Program at Towson University.
“Wesley SecureCare and Edenwald share a common mission to help older adults thrive, and by working together, we can amplify that mission and serve more people. We are one of the few continuing care at home programs across the country that is not tied to a brick-and-mortar community, so having a partner like Edenwald provides us with more resources and opportunities to carry out our mission,” Young said.
