U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services has published new guidance on expedited renewals for employment authorization applications for healthcare workers.

The agency said it will expedite the processing of renewal requests for Form I-765 for healthcare workers whose employment authorization documents, or EADs, expire within 30 days or already have expired. The agency said it will consider each application on a case-by-case basis.

The USCIS may consider a request to expedite the EAD in certain cases — for instance, if there would be severe financial loss to a company or person — provided that the applicant did not fail to file the benefit request or respond in a timely manner to requests for additional evidence.

Healthcare workers may contact the USCIS by phone at (800) 375-5283 to request expedited processing of an EAD based on personal circumstances. Callers should be prepared to provide evidence of current employment as a healthcare worker, the agency said. The USCIS did not indicate how quickly it will process requests.

“If the evidence you provide is not sufficient, we may not accommodate your request for expedited processing of your Form I-765. Expedited processing means only that USCIS will process the application faster,” the agency said.

In other news, Director Ur M. Jaddou announced Wednesday that the agency has a new mission statement: “USCIS upholds America’s promise as a nation of welcome and possibility with fairness, integrity and respect for all we serve.”

“USCIS is committed to ensuring that the immigration system we administer is accessible and humane” Jaddou said. “As we look towards the future, my commitment will remain the same — USCIS will continue to serve the public with respect and fairness, and lead with integrity to reflect America’s promise as a nation of welcome and possibility today and for generations to come.”
