Brookdale Senior Living marked 20 consecutive months of year-over-year weighted average occupancy growth in June, the company announced in its most recent occupancy report.

The Brentwood, TN-based owner and operator reported Tuesday that its June weighted average occupancy increased 160 basis points year-over-year, from 75.2% in 2022 to 76.8% in 2023. This change represented a 20 basis point sequential increase compared with the previous month.

Weighted average occupancy increased sequentially each month within the quarter, and the second-quarter weighted average occupancy of 76.5% represented 190 basis points of  year-over-year growth and 20 basis points of sequential growth compared with the first quarter of 2023, Brookdale said.

Last month, the senior living provider reported that its second-quarter-to-date average monthly move-in volume grew 3.5% compared with the first-quarter average. Second-quarter-to-date average monthly move-out volume improved 8.8% from the first quarter average.

Brookdale President and CEO Lucinda “Cindy” Baier, during a fourth-quarter and full-year 2022 earnings call in February, attributed the company’s success in this area to execution on its initiatives to rebuild occupancy lost during the COVID-19 pandemic.
