Brookdale Senior Living and Atria topped various lists in the newly released 2024 Largest 150 Providers Report, created by Argentum in partnership with commercial real estate finance firm Lument and sponsored by LifeLoop, Enseo and UKG.

Brookdale was No. 1 on the overall list of the 150 largest providers for the fifth consecutive year, according to the report, which features self-reported data from senior living companies. The company reported having 54,328 independent living, assisted living and memory care units as of Dec. 31. Skilled nursing beds were not included in any report calculations.

Atria Senior Living and LCS retained the No. 2 and 3 spots, respectively, from last year, with Atria reporting 38,007 senior living units and LCS reporting 32,710 senior living units for this year’s report. Rounding out the top five largest providers on the overall list for 2024 were Discovery Senior Living (No. 4, with 30,355 units) and Erickson Senior Living (No. 5, with 24,326 units).

Brookdale also topped separate lists of the 30 largest assisted living providers (30,037 units), the 30 largest memory care providers (9,015 units), and the 50 largest providers by operational resident capacity (57,930 people).

Atria Management Co. headed a list of the 30 largest providers of independent living, reporting 26,902 independent living units.

Atria Management Co. also led a list of five providers that appeared on the overall list of largest providers and also have the greatest number of international properties. The company has 29 locations in Canada, according to the report. Also on the list was Sunrise Senior Living (15 properties in Canada), Merrill Gardens (two in China), Belmont Village (one in Mexico) and Insignia Senior Living (1 in the Republic of Panama).

Among other features, the report also highlighted movement up and down on the main list of providers compared with last year; changes at the companies on the list since the previous report, including sold, acquired and opened communities; and newcomers to the list. The report also includes a link to an Excel spreadsheet, allowing users to create their own data sets for reference and future comparisons.
