An assisted living operator has been indicted on multiple fraud charges for allegedly failing to document services provided and for allegedly submitting false Medicaid claims.
Abdoulie Lowe, who ran Apapa Assisted Living Home in Anchorage, AK, was indicted on six felony counts of medical assistance fraud and one felony count of theft in the second degree, according to the Alaska Department of Law. The state also charged Lowe with failing to maintain workers’ compensation insurance for his employees.
The charges stem from actions Lowe is said to have taken between October 2021 and April, during which time he allegedly obtained almost $800,000 in Medicaid reimbursements without the legally required documents of services. He also allegedly submitted more than $7,000 in Medicaid claims for services provided when he was working elsewhere.
At his arraignment, Lowe confirmed that he no longer is operating as a Medicaid provider, according to Alaska Public Media.
Lowe allegedly submitted more than $328,000 in fraudulent claims for care of a single resident, plus claims totaling more than $248,000, $185,000 and $32,000, respectively, for three other residents, according to the media outlet.
Lowe faces up to 10 years in prison, a maximum $100,000 fine and restitution to the state Medicaid program. If convicted, he can be excluded from the Medicaid program.
Lowe had not responded to a request for comment from McKnight’s Senior Living by the production deadline.
