All employees working in West Virginia assisted living communities and nursing homes will be required to undergo twice weekly COVID-19 testing under a new state executive order.
Gov. Jim Justice issued the order Friday after the state recorded the state’s highest number of new daily coronaviruses cases since March twice in one week — 880 cases last Wednesday and 740 cases last Friday. The order will remain in place until rescinded or adjusted by another executive order.
“We must do all we can to protect our most vulnerable citizens, especially the residents of our nursing homes and assisted living facilities,” Justice said. “Every time they’ve needed help, we’ve run to the fire. But we want to do even more to be proactive.”
The order was one of several issued last week affecting long-term care facilities, schools, athletics and face mask requirements.
