Argentum has introduced a new program to boost advocacy efforts among members throughout the country.

“Argentum understands many of our members are already engaging in grassroots activities, so this program allows our organization to recognize their efforts as well as new advocates in the industry,” Argentum Director of Government Relations Alexis de Armas told McKnight’s Senior Living.

The STAR program builds on advocacy efforts associated with Argentum’s annual springtime “fly-in” in Washington, D.C., but the STAR program will provide participants with additional resources, such as an updated Argentum Grassroots Advocacy Toolkit, to help them educate elected officials all year long.

“We want our members to understand that interacting with lawmakers doesn’t have to only take place on Capitol Hill. They can be effective advocates in their hometown,” de Armas said.

The program recognizes participants at three levels: platinum, gold and silver. Each level has a set of requirements the participants must accomplish. For instance, at the silver level, participants commit to signing at least one “support” or “oppose” letter from Argentum’s federal advocacy web page and sharing a positive story on social media and tagging an elected official. The gold and platinum levels have additional requirements.

Members who meet the goals will receive an award and recognition in the “Argentum Advocates for You” E-newsletter.

“Grassroots engagement and involvement is critical to help us be successful,” de Armas said. “Lawmakers want to hear from their constituents. Senior living providers, staff and residents have a story to tell. With some tools and training, they can be the best advocates for our issues.”

More information about the program and an online application are available on the Argentum website.
