drone carrying package

Imagine a scenario where needed medicine and supplies can be flown directly to patients’ homes. Actually, such deliveries soon might be routine.

Walmart announced this week that it has begun testing drone-service delivery of household essentials across Fayetteville, NC.

In a corporate blog post, Senior Vice President Tom Ward said that although the program might seem to have a science fiction vibe, it actually is quite real. “We’re at a point where we’re learning more and more about the technology that is available and how we can use it to make our customers’ lives easier,” he wrote. The unmanned aerial vehicles will be able to make deliveries quickly and safely, Ward added.

Walmart’s flying drones contain delivery boxes that can carry more than five pounds of cargo. The boxes are lowered into users’ backyards from a height of 80 feet.
