Acts promotes David Vega to VP of operations analysis and compliance

David Vega has been promoted to vice president–operations analysis and compliance at Acts Retirement-Life Communities.

Vega has been with Acts for more than 31 years, starting his career in the accounting department. He previously was corporate director–compliance, a position in which he led all aspects of the organization’s compliance and internal audit functions.

Vega received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree from American Intercontinental University and earned his master’s degree in healthcare informatics from Walden University.

In addition to holding a certificate in forensic accounting from the University of North Carolina, Vegas is a certified compliance professional. He is a member of the Health Care Compliance Association and a member of the American Institute of Healthcare Compliance.

Civitas welcomes Candace Scarcliff as executive director, Tricia Carson as community relations director

Élan Westpointe, a Civitas Senior Living assisted living and memory care community in New Braunfels, TX, is welcoming Candace Scarcliff as its new executive director and Tricia Carson as its new community relations director.

Scarcliff started her career as a certified nursing assistant and has been a nurse for more than 40 years. She found her niche working with seniors for 20 of those years in various capacities, including wellness director, executive director and regional director of operations.

Before becoming community relations director in December, Carson was an educational diagnostician for the New Braunfels Independent School District and most recently was a hospice care consultant for Seasons Hospice and Palliative Care.

Erickson names Nicole Walker senior VP of HR, chief diversity officer

Nicole Walker will be joining the corporate executive team at Erickson Senior Living as the newly promoted senior vice president of human resources and chief diversity officer.

Walker began her Erickson career in 1999 as a human resources coordinator at Greenspring, the continuing care retirement community in Springfield, VA, that the company manages. She later became the director of human resources for three different Erickson-managed communities. She also was a regional director for two years before being promoted to vice president of regional human resources in 2017.

Walker holds an undergraduate degree in business administration from Florida State University, an MBA from Marymount University, a master of jurisprudence-labor and employment law degree from Tulane University School of Law, and a chief human resources officer certification from the University of Pennsylvania, Wharton School of Business, Executive Education.

Ventas appoints Justin Hutchens, EVP, senior housing, to additional role of chief investment officer

J. Justin Hutchens has been appointed to the additional role of chief investment officer at Chicago-based real estate investment trust Ventas.

He will assume the responsibilities of John D. Cobb, who will be leaving the company. Cobb has agreed to remain with Ventas as a strategic adviser through mid-February.

In his expanded role, Hutchens will be responsible for Ventas’ capital allocation strategy and execution across the enterprise in addition to his current responsibility for the company’s senior housing portfolio. He will oversee both the senior housing and investments teams and continue to report directly to Ventas Chairman and CEO Debra A. Cafaro.

Hutchens has more than 25 years of experience in both REITs and senior housing and has led Ventas’ senior housing business since joining the company in early 2020.

He previously was president and chief investment officer of HCP and CEO and president of National Health Investors. He joined Ventas from HC-One, the UK’s largest care homes operator, with more 325 locations and more than 22,000 employees, where he served as CEO from 2017 to 2020.

Hebrew SeniorLife promotes Emily McGrath to director of professional practice and education

Emily McGrath has been promoted to the position of director of professional practice and education at Hebrew SeniorLife in Boston.

McGrath started in early 2021 at HSL as a clinical nurse specialist, developing a clinical newsletter, building a strong foundation for the CNA training program and leading the nurse residency new graduate program and the senior PCA program.

McGrath is enrolled in a doctor of nursing practice program at Chamberlain University.

Morning Pointe Senior Living names Dwayne Butler director of dining operations

Dwayne Butler has been named director of dining operations for Ooltewah, TN-based Morning Pointe Senior Living.

He has approximately 30 years of experience in food services, having started as a teenager working at a Huddle House and working his way up. He worked in the restaurant industry at J. Alexander’s and Outback Steakhouse, as well as at the Bluff View Art District in downtown Chattanooga, TN. Butler also has worked for several senior living and care companies in the Chattanooga area.

Monarch Communities appoints Jackie Mazurowski as director of sales for community

Jackie Mazurowski has been named director of sales for Monarch Coopers Corner, a senior living community in New Rochelle, NY. She brings more than 22 years of senior living sales and operating experience to her new position.

Mazurowski previously was executive director at Artis Senior Living in Yorktown Heights, NY. She also was regional sales specialist for Sunrise Senior Living for the New York region.

Priority Life Care announces promotions in wake of continued growth

Priority Life Care, headquartered in Fort Wayne, IN, has announced the promotions of Mark Starks to senior vice president of operations, David Kloster to vice president of operations and Marisa Williams to senior director of sales and training.

Starks has more than 15 years in the field and is a nurse and clinical trainer. His career includes working in geriatric care as a charge nurse for six years, pediatric tracheostomy and vent care for two years and home healthcare cases for two years.

Kloster has worked in senior living for more 18 years. He started his senior living career as dining director, working his way to executive director and operations specialist before assuming his latest role. He was hired by Priority Life Care along with the transition of the 17 Celebration Villa  portfolio in 2021. He earned his degree in healthcare administration from Kaplan University.

Williams started in senior living as a marketing assistant and worked her way up to the position of sales director in less than a year. She joined PLC at the end of 2021 as a regional director of sales, managing a sales team from 13 communities in Pennsylvania, Maryland and South Carolina.  

Precision Healthcare Search hires Joe Whitt as senior consultant

Joe Whitt, the former chief operating officer of Synchrony Health Services, has joined Precision Healthcare Search as a senior consultant.

Whitt has more than 30 years of experience in the senior living industry and ancillary services. At Precision, he will help in consulting services as well as with the staffing crisis in the industry.  

Center for Innovation adds Jessica Luh Kim, Thomas Gilmartin to board

Jessica Luh Kim and Thomas Gilmartin have joined the Center for Innovation’s board of directors. They previously had been executive members of Pioneer Network’s board, holding the respective roles of secretary and treasurer. 

Kim is an independent consultant to senior living providers in the United States and Canada, drawing on her experience in the field with the Ontario Retirement Communities Association, Schlegel Villages and the Murray Alzheimer Research and Education Program at the University of Waterloo. 

Gilmartin is the chief financial officer for National Health Care Associates, an organization focused on providing short-term rehabilitation, skilled nursing and post-acute care in six Northeast states. He has spent the majority of his career in the long-term care sector, including senior housing and home- and community-based services.

Springpoint recently announced that Elena Ladygina, Kristin McCarthy, Yulia Murphy and Anjana Patel have been appointed to its board.

Ladygina is a wealth adviser and director of investment strategies at Withum Wealth Management, where she helps implement investment and financial planning  strategies for high net worth individuals. She holds an undergraduate degree in business from Wake Forest University.

McCarthy is the program director of healthcare management and administration, an assistant professor and research consultant at Rider University. She received an undergraduate degre in international studies and political science from Dickinson College, a master of public health degree from Hunter College and a DrPH from Columbia University.

Murphy, senior vice president of healthcare banking at KeyBank, focuses on expanding commercial healthcare coverage in the Hudson Valley/Metro New York market. She has more 16 years of commercial banking experience in various credit and business development roles. Murphy graduated from the University of Missouri Columbia with an undergraduate degree in finance and economics, and she received her MBA in finance and strategy from th New York University Stern School of Business.

Patel, attorney at Epstein Becker Green, has more than two decades of legal experience and advises healthcare individuals and businesses nationwide on healthcare transactions and health regulatory compliance issues. She received her undergraduate degree from Rutgers University and a law degree from the University of Texas School of Law.
