Several long-term care and healthcare employers are collaborating with the Health Career Lab of Louisville, KY, to create “a leadership training program focused on empowering tomorrow’s healthcare leaders,” according to the lab’s executive director.

The inaugural 24-student cohort of the Collaborative Healthcare Institute for Managerial Excellence, or CHIME, began coursework May 15 and will complete the program in August.

The curriculum covers building connections, emotional intelligence, inclusivity, relationship management, negotiation, team leadership, talent development, ethical conduct, change leadership, analytical thinking and problem-solving.

“The CHIME works with industry experts to equip new leaders with the tools they need to provide effective feedback, support and resources to their team members to improve talent retention and foster an innovative and collaborative work environment,” Bria Henson, EdD, executive director of Health Career Lab, said in a statement.

Coursework has been co-designed by the University of Louisville and subject matter experts from companies on the CEO Council, formerly known as the Louisville Healthcare CEO Council.

CEOC’s member companies include Anthem, Apellis Pharmaceuticals, Atria Senior Living, Baptist Health, BrightSpring Health Services, Confluent Health, the Galen College of Nursing, Hosparus Health, Humana, LHC Group, Norton Healthcare, ScionHealth, Signature HealthCARE, Trilogy Health Services and the University of Louisville.

Each program module is asynchronous, allowing students to learn at their own pace within the 15-week program, which incorporates four in-person workshops to better apply leadership content with peers and industry hallmarks.

The program, including all books and supplemental materials, is provided at no cost to participants or employers. If necessary, the Health Career Lab can provide technological resources, including laptops.

“We believe the collaboration of member organizations, UofL faculty and local healthcare leaders will create a unique training program for Louisville’s health services economy,” said Andrew McCart, PhD, associate director of health management programs in the Department of Health Management and Systems Sciences at the University of Louisville’s School of Public Health and Information Sciences.
