An Ohio-based senior living provider is opening up opportunities for its residents to participate in a value-based care model through a partnership with a Medicare Advantage special needs plan.
Jan. 1, Otterbein SeniorLife launched the Perennial Advantage program in nine locations. Perennial Advantage, a Perennial Consortium member, provides on-site care for residents of independent living and assisted living communities as well as nursing homes. Perennial teams will work with each facility’s staff to provide enhanced care.
Otterbein CEO Jill Wilson said the partnerships will “increase access to the highest quality of compassionate care that our seniors expect and deserve.”
“Otterbein SeniorLife has focused on providing high-caliber care and services to senior residents through the company’s nonprofit health and human resources organization,” Gary L. Horning, Otterbein vice president of marketing and communications, told McKnight’s Senior Living. “We believe the Perennial Advantage is superior to other managed care offerings and will increase access to the highest quality of compassionate care that our seniors expect and deserve.”
Taking the concept a step further, Horning said, the collaboration will positively affect the value, quality of care and services for its Otterbein residents by improving resident outcomes and experiences, preserving direct resident / provider relationships, and bringing care decisions closer to the resident’s home.
“We believe our residents will benefit from a true patient-centered medical home model that will improve quality of life and reduce time spent in hospitals — in essence, a seamless and superior healthcare delivery system,” he said. “In addition, we believe a collaborative effort, all focused on optimal care for the Otterbein resident, will provide better and more consistent coverage with no surprises than engagements with non-Otterbein-related managed care programs.”
The Perennial Consortium was formed in 2019 when senior living providers Colorado-based Christian Living Communities, New Jersey-based Juniper Communities and Ohio-based Ohio Living joined with managed services partner and risk management company AllyAlign Health of Virginia to form Perennial Advantage, an operator-owned Medicare Advantage network.
Perennial Advantage is available in Colorado and Ohio. Perennial Advantage now operates in 40 senior living communities across Ohio.
