May marked seven consecutive months of year-over-year weighted average occupancy growth for Brookdale Senior Living, the Brentwood, TN-based company reported Wednesday.

The company previously announced that it saw the first positive year-over-year quarterly weighted average occupancy growth in December for the first time since the pandemic began.

In May, Brookdale saw sequential weighted average occupancy increase by 70 basis points (0.7%), going from 73.9% in April to 74.6% in May. Additionally, the company saw an increase in month-end occupancy of 90 basis points (0.9%), going from 75.3% at the end of April to 76.2% by the end of May. A year ago, weighted average occupancy in May was 70.5%, and month-end occupancy was 71.6%, according to the company.

Brookdale’s year-over-year occupancy growth

During a first-quarter 2022 earnings call last month, Brookdale President and CEO Cindy Baier called it “truly remarkable” that the company recorded its best first-quarter sequential occupancy results in 10 years and in March experienced its highest March move-in figure in history amid resident rate increases and inflationary and labor pressures.
