The American Health Care Association on Monday launched the Revenue Cycle Management Academy, new online training providing an interdisciplinary approach to skilled nursing facility revenue management training.

The program is aimed at billing and accounts receivable staff members, staff members with revenue cycle management roles and administrators.

“AHCA developed Revenue Cycle Management Academy as a tool during this [workforce shortages and increasing operation costs] crisis,” Senior Vice President of Reimbursement Policy for AHCA/NCAL Mike Cheek told AHCA’s Provider Magazine.

Cheek said that “while the academy is not a silver bullet,” the new online training offers information on financial management strategies such as how to build internal controls, policies and procedures to secure reimbursements. Students will learn about submitting claims, following up with third parties, securing prior authorization and navigating the managed care appeals processes. Lessons also will cover the attributes of high-performing teams, systems to ensure proper and timely payment, and best practices for managing all payer sources to maximize revenue and minimize avoidable losses.

Short videos will profile providers’ experiences running effective revenue cycle management programs, and additional webinars and resources will be developed throughout the year, according to AHCA.

The course costs $350 for AHCA members and $650 for non-members. The course is approved by the National Association of Long-term Care Administrator Boards for 6.75 continuing education credits.
