Rendering of solar panels to be installed at Carroll Lutheran Village
Carroll Lutheran Village is expanding its green initiatives with energy-efficient lighting and solar panels to reduce energy consumption and costs. The Westminster, MD, not-for-profit continuing care retirement community anticipates saving $60,000 to $70,000 per year from solar energy.
Built in 1980, the CCRC has completed the first phase of the transition. The community replaced almost 2,000 bulbs, fixtures and lamps and 205 lighting control sensors in its apartment buildings and outdoor grounds with LED lighting. Existing fixtures were retrofitted to accommodate the LED lighting. The community is participating in Baltimore Gas and Electric’s Smart Energy Savers program, according to a CLV press release.
The next phase of the initiative will see 403 solar energy panels installed on the rooftops of the apartment buildings. The community has received the necessary permits and is hoping to get a construction schedule from the installation company this month.
“Donors and residents are very excited to see CLV move forward on these projects because they demonstrate the leadership team is being good stewards of the resources entrusted to the community,” stated Janet Buchanan, vice president of philanthropy for Lutheran Social Ministries of Maryland, CLV’s managing organization.A CLV spokeswoman confirmed to the McKnight’s Business Daily that no residents are being displaced during completion of the project.
