Residents at Poet’s Walk Sarasota, a Spring Hills memory care community in Florida, recently gathered to help area students ease into the school year with style.

During Pack the Backpack Day, which took place Aug. 9, residents presented students with an assortment of different styles of backpacks filled with school supplies.

The event was part of the Spring Hills Act of Kindness program, created to help residents feel fulfilled and purposeful. This month, residents are partnering with local communities to help support struggling families as they prepare for the upcoming school year.

Not only were the students equipped with stylish backpacks; they also did not have to worry about heading to Office Max for essentials like pencils, erasers, notebooks, binders and glue sticks.

Dawn Clayton, Ed.D., director of academic intervention programs at the Sarasota County Schools and the mother of a Bay Haven Elementary School student, said the school thanked the community’s residents “for your kindness and generosity and for setting our students up for a successful school year.”
