Residents and employees at Vi at Bentley Village in Naples, FL, marched to their own beat during the Fourth of July.

In true Southwestern Florida fashion, dozens of residents and employees of the senior living community were involved in a golf cart parade to show patriotism and celebrate Independence Day in style. Employees of all ages, as well as residents in their 70s and 80s, participated, and there were about two dozen golf carts present.

“The Fourth of July Golf Cart Parade is always one of my favorite events of the year,” Executive Director Penny Smith said. “Since we were unable to hold it last year due to the pandemic, it meant even more to me.”

The parade spanned the 156-acre campus, with a route designed to ensure that all 800 residents of independent living, assisted living and skilled nursing could view the festivities comfortably. The viewing station was outside the assisted living residences.

“It is heartwarming to see smiles on the faces of our residents as we pass them in patriotic fashion,” Smith said. “Our golf carts are adorned in red, white and blue decorations [and] we all honk our horns and play patriotic music.”
