Benchmark Senior Living has been named one of Boston’s Healthiest Employers of 2016 by the Boston Business Journal.

The award comes on the heels of The Boston Globe naming Benchmark Senior Living to its Top Places to Work ranking, which praised Benchmark and all the winners for “treating workers well, giving them a voice and encouraging them to have some fun while they’re at it.” The Boston Globe’s honor is based on a survey of employees.

“Since opening our doors in 1997, we have advocated active and healthy lifestyles for our associates not only because it’s the right thing to do but also because it makes for a great workplace,” said Tom Grape, founder, CEO and chairman of Benchmark Senior Living. “Our success as a company is built on providing an exceptional customer experience in senior living, and with these awards we demonstrate once again that that exceptional experience extends to our associates throughout the company.”

Benchmark Senior Living previously earned the Boston Business Journal’s Healthiest Employers award in 2014 and 2015, and the Boston Globe’s Top Places to Work in 2008 through 2015. Benchmark associates can access coaching and resources that focus on self-management skills, health and prevention behaviors for changing unhealthy habits and controlling chronic health conditions. Other benefits include adoption assistance, caretaker services, employee and family assistance, and discounts on many everyday purchases.

“At Benchmark Senior Living, we take health and wellness seriously but have a lot of fun doing it,” said Stephanie Handelson, president and chief operating officer at Benchmark Senior Living. “Our feeling is that by taking care of our associates, we support them to bring their best in taking care of our residents and families.”

Within the company’s home office in Massachusetts, associates can take advantage of a fitness room, wellness room, associate appreciation events and team fundraisers. Additionally, across Benchmark’s 51 senior living communities, the company supports associates in a wide range of areas, including health, finances, family support and discounts.
