Cypress Living names VP of sales and marketing

Mike Moss has been named vice president of sales and marketing at Cypress Living, and Michelle Tompkins has been named care manager for Cypress Home.

Moss, who formerly was system director for physician relations and business development at Lee Health, will be responsible for oversight and development of sales and marketing functions at Cypress Living and its affiliates, the continuing care retirement community of Cypress Cove and Cypress at Home.

Moss brings 10 years of experience managing physician relations, business development and continuum of care relations teams to ensure coordinated health, wellness and medical care for providers and residents living in Southwest Florida.

Tompkins joins the team of home and community-based care managers with more than 20 years of experience in the health and fitness industry. She obtained a master’s degree in family studies and social work from Miami University in Oxford, OH, and holds a memory fitness trainer certification from the University of California, Los Angeles’ Longevity Center.

For the past nine years, she was a wellness manager and worked in other roles at a Southwest Florida continuing care retirement community.

Lutheran Social Ministries of Maryland adds 2 to leadership team

Mary Ann Costin has been appointed director of communications and public relations, and Cyndi Goodman has been named director of talent acquisition, a new position, at Lutheran Social Ministries of Maryland.

The organization oversees operations of the continuing care retirement communities Carroll Lutheran Village in Westminster, MD, and The Lutheran Village at Miller’s Grant in Ellicott City, MD. 

Costin previously was director of marketing for Salisbury Management in Pikesville, MD, and before that was senior marketing and communications manager at Howard County General Hospital. She also formerly was digital marketing administrator at Carroll Community College in Westminster, MD.

Costin earned a master’s degree in marketing from the Johns Hopkins-Cary Business School in Baltimore and an undergraduate degree in marketing from Frostburg State University, Frostburg MD.

Goodman comes to her new role with 20 years of human resources experience. She previously was a talent acquisition manager for Brightkey, Annapolis, MD, and director of recruitment for PEI Staffing Agency LLK in Pikesville, MD.

Goodman earned an associate’s degree in computer programming technology from the Programming and Systems Institute of Baltimore.

The Carrinton at Lincolnwood names Tom Whitaker the new executive director

Tom Whitaker has been appointed the new executive director at The Carrington at Lincolnwood, a rental senior living community in Lincolnwood, IL. He succeeds Jim Biggs, who will continue in his role as CEO at West Bay Senior Living, the company providing management and operational services to The Carrington. 

Whitaker previously was director of financial services for The Carrington. With the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, his duties expanded to include coordinating daily communication updates for residents, staff and families, as well as procuring personal protective equipment and managing protocol documentation.

Whitaker holds a degree in business management from Loyola Maryland and an MBA with a focus in healthcare management from Loyola Chicago, and he is pursuing a master of senior living hospitality degree through the University of Southern California Leonard Davis School of Gerontology. 

New Executive Director Patricia Gustin moves into Emerald Court during pandemic

In April, as the COVID-19 pandemic was taking hold, Emerald Court in Anaheim, CA, welcomed Patricia Gustin as its new executive director. Gustin was not new to Kisco Senior Living but was new to Emerald Court. She decided to move into the community to live there among the residents.

Since starting at Emerald Court, Gustin has primarily focused on adapting her teams to meet new community procedures, revising responsibilities of team members to fill any gaps and restructuring what her residents’ lives will look like in the new environment. 

Tustin’s experience with Kosco began years ago when she was a human resources director for a community in Fresno, CA. She trained for an executive director role, and when Kisco sold the outlier community, Gustin stayed to ensure that the transition was smooth and that residents and associate staff were safe and satisfied.

Anna Gring has been named executive director of Woodland Hills, an independent living, assisted living and memory care community in Roanoke, VA. She has more than 10 years of experience in the senior living industry.

Joshua Jarvis has been named executive director of Bay Lake Community, an independent living, assisted living and memory care community in Virginia Beach, VA. His 15-year career has included positions in the senior living industry.

Both communities are managed by Retirement Unlimited Inc.

The Colonnade in Surprise names new executive director, Nina Louis

Nina Louis has joined Sun Health as executive director of The Colonnade in Surprise, one of three life plan communities owned and operated by Sun Health Communities in the West Valley.

As executive director, Louis oversees all operations at The Colonnade, a 40-acre campus with more than 300 residents in independent living, assisted living and memory support services, and a staff of more than 120 team members who work on Surprise campus.

Michelle Kraus to join LeadingAge Maryland Board of Directors

Ingleside at King Farm, one of three not-for-profit Ingleside communities in Washington, D.C., has announced that Executive Director Michelle Kraus has joined the LeadingAge Maryland Board of Directors.

The selection process included an initial round by the Governance Committee of LeadingAge Maryland and then a full vote by the board of directors. Kraus’ term will run until December 2021, when she will be eligible for re-election for another three-year term.

Kraus, a graduate of the University of Maryland, College Park, holds a master’s degree from George Washington University in health services administration. She has maintained an active nursing home administrator license since 1997 and continues to hold certification as a preceptor to mentor and coach training administrators.

COMVEST/LifeCare Properties announces new managing partner and COO

Jeremy Cole has joined Biloxi, MS-based commercial real estate development company COMVEST/LifeCare Properties as managing partner and chief operations officer.

The company, through an affiliate, LCP, manages site selection and focuses on luxury senior living communities that feature assisted living and memory care. Under the terms of a joint venture with Blake Management Group, LCP will assist in the expansion of The Blake senior living brand nationwide, beginning with Texas communities, The Blake at Waco and The Blake at New Braunfels.

As managing partner and COO, Cole will oversee the company’s portfolio for asset management, strategic initiatives and pursuits for new development opportunities and innovation. When he’s not in the field, Cole operates out of LCP’s satellite office in Louisville, KY.

Cole spent more than 15 years in management consulting, working for Accenture and Marriott International and as a manager of various political campaigns. He has an MBA with a focus in operations management and an undergraduate degree in marketing. He was accepted to Harvard Graduate School of Design’s real estate development program and will be a member of the 2021 class. 

Kong Capital hires Cory Wolfenbarger as vice president of operations

Cory Wolfenbarger has joined Kong Capital of Austin, TX, as vice president of operations.

Wolfenbarger has 20 years of experience in the senior housing and service industry and joins the Kong Capital team to help drive the company’s post-COVID strategy. In his role, he will manage the performance of the company’s portfolio of assets and source new strategic investment opportunities.

Before joining Kong Capital, Wolfenbarger was senior vice president of operations for the Wolff Resident Experience Co., a Scottsdale-based senior living management firm, where he also held the position of vice president of senior living asset management. He also led business development and operations for two regional home health and hospice firms in northern Utah and southeastern Idaho.

Wolfenbarger previously served in various operational leadership roles throughout the western United States for Emeritus Senior Living and Brookdale Senior Living, including regional vice president operations in Southern California. He was responsible for communities in California, Colorado, Utah, Idaho and Montana and led the transition team in those markets following the merger of Emeritus and Brookdale in 2014.

Sun Health leaders join task force, board

Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey has appointed Sun Health President and CEO Joe La Rue to a task force helping to determine when it will be safe for families to visit loved ones in long-term care facilities. Ducey announced the formation of the group in July.

Also, Sun Health Vice President of Operations Bhakti Gosalia has added a new title to her resume: president of the board of directors for LeadingAge Arizona. Bhakti, who has been with Sun Health in various roles for more than 30 years, also has been active with LeadingAge Arizona throughout her career.

Greystone names Christopher Clare as managing director for healthcare financing

Christoper Clare has joined national commercial real estate financing company Greystone as a managing director, reporting to Nikhil Kanodia, head of Greystone’s FHA financing platform.

Prior to Greystone, Clare was a senior relationship manager at M&T Bank, focusing on national healthcare and seniors housing finance for institutional equity funds, experienced operators and developers, for more than seven years. Earlier in his career, Clare worked in municipal fixed income at Bank of America Merrill Lynch.

Clare earned an MBA from Georgetown University and an undergraduate degree from Susquehanna University.
